Did a little forensics on the supposed iOS 8 screenshot that is floating around. I recreated the screenshot on iOS 7.1. My screenshot was taken with parallax disabled, and reduce motion set to on. I used folders to mimic the Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit and Tips icons.
If you look closely, all of the icon labels are shifted to the left by 1 pixel in the “iOS 8” screenshot. The background and icons do not move. It’s possible that the iOS 8 screenshot was taken on a device where reduce motion was set to off, and the device was slightly tilted. What this seems to disprove, is that the Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit, and Tips icon labels were “Photoshoped” in.
At the end of the day, it would be extremely easy to fake this screenshot by creating folders with the appropriate names, and then later changing the icons in photoshop. Also, anyone with a Apple Developer account could create dummy applications with those icons and names, then load them onto a device and take a pixel perfect screenshot.
Real or Fake? Who knows. I’m leaning towards fake. It’s not impossible for Apple to use OSX icons in very early stages of development, but Preview and TextEdit don’t seem to make sense on iOS. The Healthbook icon seems a little sketchy too. Those flames.
